REPORTS TO: Migrant Department Coordinator
SALARY GRADE: Commensurate with NC State Salary Schedule
NATURE OF WORK: An employee in this position is responsible for recruiting eligible candidates to participate in the migrant services offered through Nash County Public Schools. Work requires a broad understanding and detailed knowledge of the migrant camps, and community, and be available to recruit in the migrant peak season. Program tasks include the provision of instructional and support services. recruitment of eligible students throughout the year, tutoring services within the school setting, and other duties as assigned by the program coordinator.
- The Program Coordinator for Migrant Education is the immediate supervisor of this person, however, when providing services within a school building this person may be directed by the principal and subject to supervision by the teacher within a classroom setting.
Summer term tutorial tasks are directed and supervised by the Migrant Ed Coordinator. Work is evaluated by the Migrant Education Coordinator through observations, work performance, and conferences.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs all program recruitment functions
- Prepares, maintains, and completes required work logs, schedules, forms, and reports
- Assist at parental involvement workshops with child care and center activities
- Tutors students according to project objectives
- Provides school and program information to students and their parents
- Provides appropriate instructional and support services
- Participates in staff development activities to improve job skills
- Performs related duties as assigned by the MEP Coordinator
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Bilingual Spanish-English
- Ability to meet people, establish relationships, build and maintain a high level of confidence and support with students, parents, co-workers, and supervisors
- Ability to learn, be trained, and work effectively as a team member
- Experience with migrant or seasonal agricultural workers (preferred)
- Flexibility in hours and workdays. Recruiting and support services often occur outside regular work hours and on weekends. (During the peak season, this may include working on Saturdays and Sundays)
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel as well as Google Workspace.
- Knowledge of community resources
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion.
- Must be able to perform work exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or a reasonable amount of force frequently, to lift and/or carry children and frequently carry, push, or otherwise move objects.
- Must possess the visual acuity to operate instructional and office machines, produce written work, and read.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
- Graduation from high school combined with some related post-secondary training and/or work experience (required)
- Associate degree (preferred)
- Valid NC Driver’s license
