NATURE OF WORK: An employee in this position performs a moderate variety of clerical duties which may be of a specialized nature, as it pertains to preschool, and are usually in a relatively narrow program area. Detailed instructions or general guides of some variety are available as a reference to the employee. The employee is expected to resolve problems of medium difficulty with little assistance. Occasionally the employee may plan, develop, or revise procedures for non-complex work. An employee in this position receives limited supervision. Work typically involves answering the telephone, directing calls and responding to basic information. They will supply information regarding the organization to the general public, clients and customers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Additional Duties may be assigned.
- Answers incoming phone lines and establishes needs of callers in order to refer them to the appropriate staff person for service
- Opens and routes incoming mail; distributes correspondence and other material to department staff/faculty.
- Establishes, maintains, processes, and/or updates files, records, and/or other documents.
- May perform specialized services of a routine clerical/administrative nature in strict accordance with established procedural guidelines, as appropriate to the position.
- Schedule or assist in scheduling appointments, meetings, and/or conferences, as appropriate to the position.
- Check in students who arrive after the tardy bell and checkout students who are leaving prior to dismissal.
- Provides general administrative and clerical support
- Maintains appointment calendar and schedule appointments as needed
- Monitors and maintains office equipment and supplies
- Serve as the district instructional floater in the event a NCPS preschool instructional staff member is absent and a substitute cannot be secured to maintain state preschool compliance
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. The employee continuously interacts with the public and staff.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk and use fingers, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms. Specific visual abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and depth perception. Occasionally the employee will lift up to 50 lbs. such as to lift files and paper.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- 2 or 4 year degree in any area/OR
- Completion of 96 Community College/University contact hours and an acceptable score on college placement tests in Reading, Writing and Math.
- Previous office clerical experience is preferred.
