Job Title: K-8 Exceptional Children’s Instructional Coach 

                Department of Exceptional Children 

 

Reports to: EC Director, Assistant Director

Salary: Certified Teacher Salary Schedule 

Term of Employment: 11 months 

 

Position Summary: The EC Instructional Coach, having both knowledge of content and expertise in methods of delivering specially designed instruction to students with disabilities, will support teachers with effective implementation of instruction using research-based programs and strategies.The coach will support and provide guidance to teachers about the effective use of their data as it relates to instruction and student progress. The coach will also assist the Instructional Specialists with other tasks related to curriculum and instruction with the ultimate goal of improving outcomes for students with disabilities. The coach will collaborate with the district EC team to design, deliver and implement professional development sessions as needed throughout the school year. 

 

Qualifications:  

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university
  • Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience with students with disabilities (Gen Ed and ECS experience preferred)
  • Current NC teaching license in special education (Dual licensure preferred)
  • Successful teaching experience and implementation of direct instruction programs in literacy and math
  • Completion of either Reading Research to Classroom Practice/LETRS
  • Completion of either Foundations of Math/Effective Math Strategies 

General Responsibilities: 

  • Assist the EC instructional Specialists with tasks and initiatives related to improving quality of instruction for students with disabilities 
  • Provide support to teachers related to implementation of curriculum and research-based instructional strategies 
  • Provide support and coaching to teachers related to implementation of direct instruction programs 
  • Willingness to complete steps to become a trainer of direct instruction programs
  • Willingness to complete steps to become a Reading Research to Classroom Practice, Co-Teaching, and/or Foundations of Math trainer 
  • Provide support to teachers related to data collection, analysis, and data-driven decision making
  • Maintain required documentation related to job tasks and communications 
  • Effectively manage time in order to meet deadlines 
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, staff members, and EC staff regarding curriculum and instruction 
  • Participate in required meetings and trainings 
  • Design, develop and deliver district level training to staff in collaboration with the EC Instructional Specialists
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality
